The widgets a model can put in a transcript
What a diagram, an image gallery, a sound gallery and a download are, and how each behaves on screen.
A widget comes from a tool call. It gets a card of its own in the conversation, rather than
the body of a tool row. The visualize MCP server carries the first three tools below, and the
downloads server carries the fourth.
| Widget | Tool | Shows |
|---|---|---|
| Diagram | show_widget |
An SVG document or a Mermaid diagram, drawn inline |
| Image gallery | show_image_gallery |
One or more picture files, each captioned |
| Sound gallery | show_audio_gallery |
One or more audio files, each with a labelled player |
| Download | archive_files |
Files and folders zipped into one archive, with a download for it |
The diagram
A diagram is either an SVG document the model wrote or a Mermaid source, rendered inline in the page rather than as an image file. Rendering it inline is what lets the app's own colours reach the shapes; a separate image file would draw in whatever colours the model guessed.
The card is frozen where it was drawn. A changed diagram is another call and another card, so the transcript keeps a record of what was on screen at the time.
A Maximise diagram control in the card's corner widens it to the full width of the transcript in place. Pressing the same control, now labelled to fit the diagram back to the column, sets it back.
A Mermaid source that fails to parse draws the parse error on the card instead of the diagram. An SVG document the check refuses draws the reason instead.
The image gallery
A single picture fills the card. A set of them becomes a grid, which is what makes several renders comparable at a glance, and each picture carries a caption under it. Pressing a picture opens it filling the window, with a control there that opens the file outside Turret in the machine's own image viewer.
The card fetches each file live rather than holding a copy of it, so a gallery always shows what is at the path now. A file that has gone since the call leaves a caption saying so, in the place its picture would have been.
The sound gallery
Each file gets its own labelled player, in the order the model listed them. A player fetches its file live the same way a picture does, and a sound that has gone leaves a caption saying so. Nothing plays until a player is pressed.
The download
A download card is what a model produces when it has been asked for files rather than for something to look at. The tool takes a list of files and folders, and the archive is written in the background. The card shows the files being collected, then the archive being written. It settles on the finished zip, its size, and a Download button.
In a window the button opens this machine's Save dialog. On a phone it downloads the archive through the browser, under the name on the card.
An archive holds what sits under the home directory or inside a session's working directory. Anything outside both is left out, and a symbolic link is skipped rather than followed.
An archive is kept for a fortnight. A card whose archive has been cleared says so in place of the button, and the transcript keeps the record that the archive was made.
When a call draws no widget
A call still running stays an ordinary tool row, and so does a call declined at the permission prompt or a call the tool refused.
